IDA Living Up To Billing

Hurricane IDA made landfall near Grand Isle Louisiana at 11:55 am central this morning as a CAT 4 Hurricane. 46k world wide viewers watched live streaming video of the of today’s events on Dr. Don’s Weather.

At this hour, IDA is still a very powerful storm maintaining CAT 3 just south of I-10 near Lutcher, Louisiana. IDA will enter Mississippi just south of McComb and then track north northeast along I-59 through the night turning more northeast tomorrow north of Jackson Mississippi.

It now appears IDA will make her closest approach to east Alabama and west Georgia as she turns northeast near Tupelo Mississippi at about 200 miles down range.

A Wind Advisory is in place for Monday for much of central and east Alabama for south winds 10-20 mph with gust up to 40 mph. The 40 mph winds will be more likely along and west of I-65.

Severe Weather will be possible Monday across east Alabama primarily during feeder bands that spiral toward IDA. Brief tropical downpours, gusty winds and small spin up tornadoes will be possible. Rainfall amounts should be 1” – 1.5” area wide.

I will return to live coverage on Dr. Don’s Weather as soon as conditions warrant.
