CENTRAL COOSA COUNTIES UNTIL 730 PM CDT…
At 659 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over
Mitchell Lake, or 7 miles northeast of Clanton. This storm was nearly
stationary.
Winds in excess of 40 mph will be possible with this storm.
Locations impacted include…
Clanton, Mitchell Lake, Gap Of The Mountain, Higgins Ferry Park, Lay
Lake Dam, Lay Lake, Lomax, Paint Creek, I 65 Rest Area and Cooper.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
If on or near Lay Lake, get out of the water and move indoors or
inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles
from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close
enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not
be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.
